Frequently Asked Questions16 questions
What is AcuiQ?

A searchable index of acupuncture point selections taken from published studies and clinical texts. You search a symptom; it shows you what sources prescribed for it and links you to those sources. No account, no data stored. It also sells ~1.5mm press needles for self-application.

How does AcuiQ work?

You enter one or more symptoms. AcuiQ resolves them to indexed concepts, matches them against its catalogue of published point selections by text similarity, and returns the closest entries with their sources. It does not build a treatment plan and does not differentiate the cause of a symptom – see About & Method for what that means in practice.

What are press needles?

Press needles are tiny (~1.5mm) acupuncture needles on 3M backing tape that can be worn discreetly or fashionably for extended periods, often prescribed for supplementary treatment and safe for home use.

Is self-acupuncture with AcuiQ safe?

Press needles insert shallowly and are designed for self-application. AcuiQ itself is a reference index, not a treatment recommendation: it shows you what published sources prescribed, and it never differentiates the cause of your symptom. If a complaint is new, severe, or persistent, see a qualified practitioner rather than self-treating from a search result.

How much does AcuiQ cost?

Searching is free. There is no account and no subscription. Two things are for sale, press needles and a self-treatment guide PDF, each priced on its own page.

What data does AcuiQ use?

Point selections extracted from published studies – 3,795 of them link the paper they came from – plus prescriptions recorded in clinical texts and case reports. Searching matches your symptoms against those entries by text similarity; there is no model and no prediction. Full methodology.

Is my data private with AcuiQ?

There is no account and no login. Each search adds one tally to the symptom it matched, with no visitor attached. Analytics run without cookies. The privacy policy lists everything recorded.

What products can I buy through AcuiQ?

Two products: Hot Spots™ press needles at $19.99 for a box of 100, and the Self-Treatment Guide PDF at $12.99. Both check out through Stripe.

How does AcuiQ match symptoms?

Text similarity. Your terms are resolved to symptom concepts, expanded over synonyms, and compared against each indexed entry's symptom list; entries reported in published studies rank above generated indication lists. The percentage on a card is string similarity, not clinical confidence. Full methodology.

Who publishes AcuiQ?

AcuiQ. The index is compiled, corrected, and published in-house, and no entry is written from clinical experience – each one records what a published source prescribed and carries its citation. Who maintains it, what that does not amount to, and the commercial-interest disclosure.

How can I get started with AcuiQ?

Search a symptom – no login, nothing stored. You get the point selections published for it, each with its source. Press needles are available if you choose to self-treat, but read what the tool does not do first.

What is acupuncture and how does it work?

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body. These acupoints lie along meridians (energy channels) and stimulating them helps restore the flow of Qi (vital energy), promoting natural healing and pain relief.

Can I do acupressure at home safely?

Yes! Acupressure uses finger pressure instead of needles and is safe for home use. Apply firm, steady pressure to acupoints for 1-3 minutes. Avoid acupressure on open wounds, varicose veins, or during pregnancy on certain points. Consult a professional if you have serious health conditions.

How do I find the correct acupoint location?

Acupoints are located using anatomical landmarks like bones, muscles, and tendons. Our detailed images show each point on muscular, dermal, and skeletal views. Use the "cun" measurement system (1 cun = width of your thumb) for precise positioning.

What are meridians?

Meridians are energy pathways that connect acupoints throughout the body. There are 12 primary meridians linked to major organs (Lung, Heart, Liver, etc.) plus 2 extraordinary vessels (Governing and Conception). Each meridian has specific points that treat related conditions.

How often should I practice acupressure?

For general wellness, practice 2-3 times daily. For acute symptoms like headaches, you can apply pressure as needed. Consistency is key – regular practice over weeks yields better results than occasional intense sessions.
